Activities Soccer Camp includes activities and tours, all of which are organized by our bilingual staff. Some activities give insight into Costa Rican culture, others have direct relevance to Soccer Camp - all are designed for fun!
Fútbol is more than the national sport of Costa Rica - it's an integral
part of the people and their culture. On the evenings that coincide with professional
games, Soccer Camp will go see some of the best fútbol teams in Costa
Rica play. The excitement and enthusiasm created inside the stadium has
to be seen
to be believed. Latin Dance Night You're not a true tico until you learn to salsa! Merengue, salsa and cumbia dance classes are offered during the week for those that wish to learn. Movie Night Organized trips to the movies - English movies with Spanish subtitles - provide great opportunities to practice your Spanish and learn proper sentence structure! Night Match To round out the Soccer Camp experience, players will challenge Equipo CPI, the CPI-sponsored local league second division champions, in a floodlit match on the final Friday. Players will witness how their skills have improved by playing against a true Tico team! Tours and Excursions Upon arriving here in 1502, Christopher Columbus named this land Costa Rica, or 'Rich Coast,' for its abundance of gold. Today, that name still holds true for many people, reflecting Costa Rica's tremendous biodiversity (the country supports over 5 percent of the world's total biodiversity, despite its small size). Soccer Camp's wide range of tours and excursions provide students with the opportunity to explore Costa Rica's natural beauty, as well as experience the rich and vibrant culture of the Costa Rican people. Excursions Two morning trips are organized each week. During the first week, students tour the nearby historic city of Heredia and the capital of Costa Rica, San José. The cities of Heredia and San José both offer many points of interest, and the tour finishes in Pueblo Antiguo in the Parque de Diversiones, a turn of the century Costa Rican village complete with authentically dressed villagers and activities. The second trip during week one is a guided boat tour of Río Sarapiquí. Río Sarapiquí lies in the northern region of Heredia, an area of stunning natural beauty and pristine rainforest inhabited by monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles and a wealth of other animal life. During the second week the group will visit Parque Iguana, which boasts one of the better canopy tours in Costa Rica. A series of cables suspended in the tree canopy allows you to glide from tree to tree. The canopy tour offers an innovative perspective on the natural beauty of the country, giving a new view of the forest - as well as an adrenalin rush! On the weekend between classes, students will travel to the Arenal Volcano,
Costa Rica's most active volcano, where (with a bit of luck) students will
witness impressive lava explosions. After hiking and exploring the nearby
waterfalls, students can relax in the natural hot springs. |
